Ħamrun Spartans Set the Standard for Fan Engagement and Community Involvement
Ħamrun, Malta – May 24, 2025 — Ħamrun Spartans Football Club continues to lead the way in fan engagement and community outreach, blending tradition with innovation to strengthen ties with supporters and the wider public.
One of the club’s most notable recent initiatives was the launch of a special kit for World Autism Awareness Day. Designed by Jacob, a young artist on the autism spectrum, the jersey was worn during the FA Trophy match against Birkirkara FC. After the match, autographed kits were auctioned, with proceeds supporting the creation of a multi-sensory room in Ħamrun—an initiative that highlights the club’s inclusive spirit.
The Spartans also made headlines with their “Ħamrun Ħanin” campaign, where elderly fans walked onto the pitch alongside players before a Premier League clash with Hibernians. The initiative aimed to combat loneliness among seniors and promote intergenerational solidarity. Replacing the usual practice of children accompanying players, this gesture was widely applauded across Malta.
Fan-driven support was also evident in European competitions. When PBS declined to cover broadcasting costs for the UEFA Conference League match against Ballkani, Ħamrun fans rallied together to raise over €3,000 in a matter of hours, ensuring that the game could be watched live by local supporters.
Looking to the future, the club is set to build a new 3,000-seat Spartans Arena, compliant with UEFA standards. This stadium will allow Ħamrun to host European fixtures at home and will serve as a modern hub for football in Malta.
In the digital arena, Ħamrun Spartans have found success as well, winning their third consecutive Malta ePremier League title. The club’s foray into eSports has attracted younger fans and demonstrated their versatility across both physical and virtual platforms.
With each of these actions, Ħamrun Spartans reinforce their reputation not just as a top-tier football club, but as a driving force for social impact and fan involvement in Malta.
