EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — The Edmonton Oilers found their spark — and some timely chaos — to breathe life into their playoff series.
Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard scored just 10 seconds apart in the third period as the Oilers rallied for a wild 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night, trimming the Kings’ lead to 2-1 in the first-round Western Conference series.
Kane tied the game with 6:42 left, jamming home a loose puck in a frantic net-front scramble. After a video review upheld the goal, the Kings challenged for goalie interference — and lost. That failed challenge gave Edmonton a power play, and Bouchard wasted no time, ripping home the go-ahead goal off a slick feed from Leon Draisaitl just seconds later.
From there, the Oilers poured it on.
Bouchard and Connor Brown each finished with two goals, while Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored. Calvin Pickard, making his first playoff start in relief of Stuart Skinner, made 25 saves in a poised performance between the pipes.
Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, Drew Doughty, and Trevor Moore scored for the Kings, who saw their high-powered special teams sputter late. Darcy Kuemper stopped 29 shots but couldn’t stem the tide after Edmonton’s third-period push.
The win gives Edmonton a chance to even the series in Game 4 on Sunday night at Rogers Place.
