In what has become an annual tradition of excellence, Buffalo Bandits superstar Dhane Smith has once again etched his name into the National Lacrosse League record books. For the fourth consecutive season, Smith has broken the league’s single-season assist record, finishing the 2025 regular season with a staggering 103 assists.
Smith, known for his elite vision, pinpoint passing, and unselfish style of play, continues to redefine the role of a forward in professional lacrosse. This latest milestone is just another testament to his consistency and dominance as one of the game’s greatest playmakers.
“It’s never been about the numbers for me,” Smith said following the game that secured his record. “I just want to put my teammates in the best position to score and help my team win. The assists come from everyone being in the right place and trusting each other on the floor.”
The previous single-season assist record—also held by Smith—was 96, set in 2024. This year, he shattered that mark, pushing into triple digits for the first time in league history. His chemistry with teammates like Josh Byrne and Tehoka Nanticoke has been a key part of the Bandits’ high-powered offense, which finished near the top of the league in scoring.
At only 32 years old, Smith continues to add to an already Hall of Fame-worthy career. In addition to his assist records, he’s also a former league MVP and holds multiple team and league milestones.
Fans, teammates, and lacrosse analysts alike are running out of superlatives to describe Smith’s brilliance on the floor. With the playoffs just around the corner, Smith and the Bandits look poised to make another deep run — and it’s clear that as long as he’s on the floor, history could be made at any momen
