As the countdown to the 2025 WNBA season begins, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is once again at the center of the spotlight. Coming off an electrifying rookie campaign that earned her both Rookie of the Year honors and a WNBA All-Star nod, Clark is not just raising the bar on the court—she’s also keeping things refreshingly real off of it.
In a recent episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman on Netflix, Clark opened up about her whirlwind year, her love for the game, and one particular gripe she has with the league.
While chatting with Letterman, Clark revealed the one thing she “hates” about the WNBA: mandatory pregame press conferences.
“I don’t mind [press conferences] after games, but I hate doing them before games,” she admitted with a laugh. “The league requires it.”
Never missing a beat, Letterman leaned into the moment and stared straight into the camera. “I have a personal message for the WNBA, as I call it the W. Knock off the pregame pressers. Thank you,” he declared, sparking laughs and agreement from Clark.
Despite the lighthearted criticism, Clark’s commitment to the league and its growth is unwavering. She also used the platform to speak on the deep roots of the WNBA and her own awareness of the privilege she carries as a rising star.
“I definitely have privilege,” Clark said. “I’m obviously white, but I think I’m somebody who grew up a huge fan of this league. I grew up watching this league, going to games, supporting this league. So I know where this league comes from—a lot of Black women that grew up making this league what it is.”
Clark’s humility and authenticity have made her one of the most admired young athletes in professional sports. On the court, she’s a generational talent. Last season, she averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the league in assists and propelling the Fever into the playoffs for the first time in years.
Now, with her sophomore season on the horizon, Clark is ready to pick up where she left off. The Indiana Fever are set to open their 2025 campaign at home on May 17 against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky—a matchup already generating major buzz.
As Clark continues to grow into one of the WNBA’s brightest stars, it’s clear she’s not just here to make plays—she’s here to shape the future of the league, press conference quirks and all.
